"Polar Bears of Svalbard Norway - No. 1"
I went to Svalbard in September 2009 to photograph Polar Bears. Some were skeptical that we'd see any bears at all. Well...we got lucky: we found a Narwhal carcass with about 11 bears in the area. We also found different groups of Walruses (or would that be Walri???). We also saw fox and various seabirds. I was a bit hesitant going at first. I don't get seasick (I think I was a sailor in my "other life" but I was a bit worried about "BIG" seas. Movies like the "Perfect Storm" scared the you-know-what out of me, but I knew that if I wanted Polar Bears, I was going to have the bite the bullet and go on a ship, out into the freezing ocean into the Arctic Circle and hope for the best. As it turned out: No big seas (although a number of people were seasick - but - not I!) It was really a fabulous and absolutely fun trip! You see...I like to travel with the Brits. They're a lovely group of people and relatively "quiet" - not like us Americans. On this trip, however, I was the only American, and I tried to behave myself (and I think I did...I think...)
